About the Cowichan Crusher Gravel Fondo
In order to learn more about the Cowichan Crusher gravel Fondo first we must describe whata Gravel Fondo is.
A Gravel Fondo resembles a road Gran Fondo but predominantly traverses gravel or dirt roads and trails. It is generally non-technical (unlike mountain biking) and can be comfortably ridden on a Gravel bike, Cross bike, Mountain bike, Hybrid, and for most Beginner/Piccolo Fondos, even on a road bike with wider tires. Our goal is to ensure our events are 75% gravel or more.
History
Following the successful execution of the Kettle Mettle Dirty Fondo for several years in the Okanagan (FYI, it’s the oldest Gravel Fondo in Western Canada!), we aimed to expand our series and found Vancouver Island to be the perfect fit upon discovering the incredible gravel opportunities within the Cowichan Valley. Subsequently, we established the Cowichan Crusher Gravel Fondo. Initially held just outside Duncan in the Glenora area, we later relocated to Lake Cowichan due to reduced traffic and the availability of breathtaking scenery, outstanding terrain, and improved routes.
